A central component of this body of work is the connection between land and body. In Portrait of a Place to Rest: Wildfire to Floodplains I asked my parents: “When you die, what do you want to happen to your body?”. During a visit home I documented sites they identified as locations they would like their ashes spread. The film strip flows across the screen as an animation, alternating between burnt and unburnt. Accompanying the video is a cyanotype on silk mapping the river’s path from mountain to coulee, and the ashes of my own burnt hair in a petri-dish.
