Their flight is aimless (2025 - )
Inkjet prints on metallic paper. 20”x20” and 16”x20”.Their flight is aimless is a series made using 35mm colour negatives of leaves. The negatives are then hole-punched and photographed. This work is inspired by the invasive Japanese Beetles that eat lace-like patterns into the leaves of trees in Nova Scotia every spring and summer since their introduction in 1939 by an unwitting tourist. The government of Canada fact sheet for Popillia Japonica (Japanese Beetle) writes “their flight is aimless”, speaking to the difficulty of containing and classifying invasive species. The prints are metallic paper, mimicking the jewel-toned shells of the beautiful and destructive beetles. This body of work is ongoing.
